Why tape-in hair extensions?

Imagine hair extensions that are so natural feeling that you forget you're wearing them.  Tape-in hair extensions are lighter on the scalp than their clip-in counterparts, and because the double-sided keratin tape is so thin, they lay more naturally flush with your scalp.

Can I wash my hair extensions?

Accepted Answer

Since your hair extensions do not produce natural oils, it does not need to be washed as often as your own hair.  It should be washed after XX uses or when there is product build up.
 
Care Instuctions :  Gently shampoo and condition each section separately with a gentle and color safe product and rinse well with lukewarm water.  Let them air dry.
 
Pro-Tip : Use a deep conditioning treatment to help add moisture back into the hair.  You can also lock in moisture by adding a few drops of hair oil to the ends.
 
We recommend using a soft bristle brush,  starting at the bottom of the weft to avoid damaging your hair extensions.

How long should I wait after installation to wash my hair?

We recommend 48 hours for hair extension installations that include adhesive.  Weft extensions can be washed the same day.

Hair extensions have a lifespan that can range anywhere between 3 months to a year or longer, depending on the care that they receive.

What type of hair is used in The Art of Extensions products?

100% cuticle in-tact human hair that is ethically sourced from consenting individuals looking to sell their hair for profit.  Our hair has never been acid-dipped or chemically stripped.

Acid-dipping is common in other brands because it allows companies to quickly create large quantities without having to be selective about donor hair quality.  Acid-dipping greatly reduces the integrity, appearance, and feel of the hair, especially after several washes.

Can I heat style my hair extensions?

Our hair extensions can be straightened, blow-dried, styled and curled just like your own hair.
 
We do suggest using a heat protectant spray prior to styling to preserve and extend the lifespan of your hair extensions.
 
Lower heat settings (below 120C/250F) is recommended.

How do I care for my hair extensions?

Always use a sulfate-free shampoo/conditioner routine.

Since hair extensions do not get a direct supply of nutrients from the scalp like natural hair, it is important to avoid sulfate products which will strip the hair and reduce it's integrity.  Use our The Art of Extension's - Shampoo and Conditioner for maximum longevity and shine.

What are Remy Human Hair Extensions?

Remy human hair extensions means all cuticles are laying in the same direction.  
 
Many companies erroneously use the term "Remy," while actually offering lower quality, cuticle-stripped hair.  Authentic Remy hair is smooth and lustrous.

What does "cuticle intact hair" mean?"

Human hair has a natural cuticle layer which protects the hair, lying flat in one direction to create a smooth, shiny appearance and locks in moisture.  Because The Art of Extensions only offers 100% Cuticle Intact extensions, our products can be treated just like your own hair and are guaranteed to last longer than our cuticle-stripped competitors.

Can I color hair extensions?

Accepted Answer

Our customers have had great success both depositing and lifting color with our extensions.  However, The Art of Extensions is not responsible for any damage caused by coloring the extensions, and we can not accept hair for return or exchange once it has been altered.  For this reason, it is highly recommended to confirm the exact color(s) desired using our Color Ring and to purchase the color that most accurately matches your desired look.

Is there any pain or discomfort with hair extensions?

Accepted Answer

It is a common misconception that hair extensions cause pain and hair loss.  Feeling a slight initial tightness is normal and there should never be any sharp pains or extreme discomfort as long as the extensions are properly applied by a professional stylist.

Can I go swimming with hair extensions?

Accepted Answer

Prior to any contact with the ocean, a lake, or chlorinated water, we recommend saturating the hair with water and/or a coat of conditioner.  This saturation will help prevent the hair form fully absorbing harmful chemicals or minerals.  Upon exiting the ocean, lake, or pool, the hair should be washed with lukewarm water with a generous amount of deep conditioner and clarifying shampoo when necessary.

How should I sleep with hair extensions?

We highly recommend sleeping in a low braid, pigtail braids, or a low ponytail.  Taking these precautionary steps will reduce the friction caused by tossing and turning during your sleep cycle, which contributes to tangling and loosening of the extensions.

What is Return Hair?

Return hair refers to the 1-2cm of short hair aligned at the top portion of many competitor wefts aka. a "mustache".  Return hair is often a sign of lower-quality wefts and can be uncomfortable due to the short pieces causing itching, matting, and even damage to the hair.  The Art of Extensions offers only the flattest, most invisible wefts with absolutely no return hair.

Why is it important that The Art of Extensions never lets hair fall to the floor when collecting it?

It is always cut fresh by our partners directly, who collect it in a braid with the cuticles aligned in the same direction from root to tip, not letting any strands fall to the floor.  This method prevents tangles, increases shine, and results in vibrant, smooth, and naturally lustrous strands without the use of any chemicals or silicone treatments.
